Meet Cynthia Carrell

Founder & Clinical Director

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and trauma therapist licensed in Arizona, and founded Phoenix Mental Wellness in 2020. I work with adults who are exhausted by the ongoing struggle with their bodies, food, and weight and who are ready to understand why change can feel so confusing, frustrating, and emotionally charged.

I specialize in helping clients understand that these struggles are not about willpower or discipline. They are often rooted in trauma, attachment patterns, and nervous system responses that shape how we experience our bodies and ourselves. Together, we slow down and look beneath the surface at the emotional, relational, and physiological factors driving these patterns so change can come from understanding rather than self-blame.

As a trauma therapist, I frequently support clients navigating anxiety and depression alongside body image distress and weight concerns. My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 1 training, attachment theory, mindfulness, and somatic-based interventions. This allows us to work not only with thoughts and behaviors, but with the body and nervous system where so much of this struggle actually lives.

I also bring over ten years of experience working with the transgender community, supporting individuals through the psychological effects of gender transition. This work has deeply shaped my understanding of identity, embodiment, and what it means to feel at home in one’s body.

Clients often seek me out because life feels harder than it should and they are tired of fighting themselves. Therapy with me is a collaborative, grounded process focused on clarity, self-compassion, and sustainable change. I want to help you build a stable, trusting relationship with your body and yourself, so life feels less like a struggle and more like somewhere you belong.

You are not broken. Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Initiating therapy can feel uncertain, intimidating, or even overwhelming, but if you are here, you have already demonstrated remarkable courage. Are you experiencing generalized anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, postpartum challenges, trauma, or any of life transitions and seeking guidance on how to proceed? I am dedicated to assisting you in exploring your emotions, modifying unhelpful thought patterns, and cultivating the motivation to continue moving forward. I will not attempt to resolve your issues for you, but I will connect with you in your current state and provide a compassionate, non-judgmental environment to facilitate your discovery of practical strategies for achieving clarity, confidence, and resilience. I will equip you with tools to maintain stability, manage intense emotions, and identify approaches that genuinely resonate with you.

BRITTANY LANE

Psychotherapist

I became a therapist not only to help individuals change their lives but also to empower women and LGBTQ+ individuals to feel seen, supported, and confident in their identities. Often, we become everything to everyone, which may fulfill our aspirations but can also lead to our carrying fears, shedding tears, and feeling misunderstood under the pressure of balancing daily responsibilities, relationships, and expectations. I provide a safe and affirming space where you can release your burdens. I provide a place where your experiences, identities, and stories are honored without judgment. My passion lies in motherhood, womanhood, and identity exploration. My goal is to offer hope, support, and compassion as you reconnect with yourself and pursue your desires.

My primary focus is on working with adult women and LGBTQ+ clients who seek a supportive and non-judgmental environment to explore personal goals, enhance self-acceptance, and navigate life’s transitions with clarity and confidence. Women and LGBTQ+ individuals deserve care that respects their pace, identity, and unique experiences. I am here to meet you where you are now and provide the support you need to make the changes you desire.
